Pyari Aama,
I hope you are doing well for the fact that we just had a long conversation. But life is short and there is no time to leave important words unsaid. So, I am writing this letter. People say I am good at writing down emotions. So, I hope you’ll like it.

It’s been 20+ years and an additional nine months of trouble from me to you. And yet you call me every day and check in on me. You make sure that I eat my food and go to bed on time. And for all the trouble I’ve given you. You love more with each passing day. I cannot thank god enough for making me your son. A day without listening to your “gaali” is not a day at all.

From “your hair is long, get your hair done,” “rather playing football focus on your studies,” “You’ve to put on weight, eat all the vegetables,” “Why don’t you marry your cell phone instead of a girl?” to teaching me to respect the whole human race instead of gender, asking me to do better every day. Teaching me to forgive people even though they have hurt me. For teaching me that life is beautiful and giving up is never an option. And most importantly, teaching me never to judge anyone. Thank you so much for not comparing me to anyone else because you’ve always believed that humans are unique for the way they are.

I will always uphold what you’ve taught me and when I tell my friends of things you’ve taught me, they admire you a lot. I promise you I will never let you down and never disappoint you. Because you have always raised me up to hold my head high. You have taught me to see beauty in the brokenness. You have light in darkness.

And no matter how old I grow, I will always be a baby boy to you. And you’ll always be my hero. You were my best friend through my heartbreaks; I will never get tired of your hugs, back rubs and long talks. Anytime I’ve had a bad day or a bad week, I know a small talk with you will make it all seem okay again. You’re my role model. Mami, you see the best in every single person you meet. And you have never used a loud voice nor your hands against me or against my sisters.

You find joy in our happiness, like you’ve laid down yourself for our family. And I am sorry for each and every mistakes which I did knowingly or unknowingly!

I’ve been to many cities, visited tons of places, spent my nights in tons of expensive hotel suites. But nothing can beat the warmth of your lap.
