Making attempt to understand diplomacy and international relation via Kissinger is almost a phenomena for me, personally. He has been a man behind curtain of the American hegemony regarding the foreign relation and strategies US implements throughout post war epoch.

This book- World Order- Kissinger’s straightforward approach of de-sentimentalizing rampant democratic practices and state-based order establishment within the boundary of a country and leaping forward shaking hands with immediate neighbor as well regional powers – ultimately to the centralized world powers secludes the welcoming opinion whether in specifically diplomatic or even in cultural spheres.

Kissinger states that America has left no stones unturned whether directly or covertly in any of the sensitive nooks in the world regardless of political inclinations or geographical situations. If world order is defined based on legitimacy and power, Kissinger opines, after the Thirty Years War (1618-48), the only consequential winner should have been France since it came over the limitations of national-international relations introducing ground breaking courageous decision of French Chief Minister Armand-Jean du Plessis. But it was after all a war against Church supremacy waged by the Protestants where it lacked key components to establish France as an international power.

Again, after World War I, when Austrian Empire collapsed, Russian Empire lost its aura and Ottoman Empire was excluded from European spectra, France and its allies couldn’t agree upon treating Germany technically in the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. The expected stability after the World War I lost its credibility from the first day that eventually sowed a seed for Second World War.

So, entire Europe what Kissinger understands in the book always had a chance and it always squandered very opportunity being a world power. He also argues that the Soviet challenge had compelled Europe to ally with Atlantic partners across. And there always remained a ghostly contradiction between Atlantic Partnership motto and non-enforcing universal ideas among European giants; the principle Europe holds from time of Holy Roman Empire to the prevailing European Union.

Further Kissinger jumps to Islamic world and presents a very interesting opening idea that the North Africa and Middle East are always experimenting holy war, empire, debates over foreign domination and sectarian war of its kind. He studies that the Islamic struggle to convince world community about their understanding is time and again sabotaged by their own crisis of coexistence and power sharing circumstances.

The strongest example he brings out is the division that happened between Muslims as Shia and Sunni soon after the death of Muhammad in 632 AD- separation triggered an evergreen conflict between the coexistence of faith-based and state-based order in Islam world.

Now, the Soviet. Henry Kissinger applauds Ronald Reagan as the pin-point politician born on the required time and led America exactly when it needed him. He with his strong principle and terminating diplomacy strategy brought down the risk Soviet Union posed and ended the Cold War, putting off the Gorbachev candle light in USSR.

Compellingly compiled with topic wise explanations and statement of chronological development, in this book Kissinger has missed very less issues and late issues. He enlists possibilities in future about the new world order, the digital based civilization and some sensitive questions targeted to the American hegemony over the world to promote purposeful American role which could be philosophically and geo-politically valid.
